A New Website

Coal Mountain Stake Music

This website is to help support the important role of music in the home and church. During this most unusual time of quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the home has become the central stage for the church as families invoke the Lord’s blessings upon them by teaching the gospel, bearing testimony and participating in the Lord’s sacrament to ask for his spirit to always be with us as we remember Him.

Music has always been important to the Lord and has been written about in all eras of time. After the Lord administered the first sacrament to his disciples, Matthew says,  ‘And when they had sung an ahymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.’ Matt 26:30.

This site is to support the singing of good hymns and songs. It is to teach, prepare, and sustain those who are involved in music with their congregations and families . . . which basically means all of us. There are resources for vocal, keyboards, and other instruments. Soon there will be links to the Coal Stake Music YouTube page for you to listen and enjoy our upcoming musical firesides.

Music can inspire and teach. Singing has the potential to be a form of prayer to God. Rhythm, lyrics, melodies, and harmonies all work in conjunction to uplift the soul and bring meaning and joy to life.

It’s easy to follow CoalStakeMusic.com (see ‘follow’ on sidebar) and share. Contact coalstakemusic@gmail.com if you would like to contribute an article.

Special Music In Sacrament Meetings

YES!!  It takes effort but great blessings can come with good special music.  Appropriate music in our worship service can invite the Holy Spirit into our meetings if performed well.

Sheet Music and Keyboard

The handbook says,  “Musical selections may be presented by choirs, vocal and instrumental soloists, and small groups. Hymns and other appropriate selections may be used” (see 19.4.2).  Contact your Ward Music Chairman to be involved. Ward Music Chairmen should be constantly seeking out those that would like to contribute.  Hymns and many other selections can be found online on the church website

Wisdom and prayer are key in selecting what is appropriate for your meetings. If you are not sure, ask someone who has experience and good judgement.  Remember that special music is not a recital, but rather an opportunity to enhance worship of the Savior. See the hand book for more instructions and working with the Bishopric.
